Moore – Martha M. Walden, age 93, died at White Oak Estates in Spartanburg, SC on August 15, 2010.
Born on February 20, 1917 in Woodruff, SC, Mrs. Walden was the daughter of the late Claude and Ola Edwards Montjoy. She was a devoted and lovely wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Walden felt that the purpose of her life was the total giving of herself and all she had to her children and grandchildren. To all who knew her, she was a true Southern Christian lady who bore witness to her Faith daily through “little nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and Love.”

Roebuck, SC – Juanita M. Roberson, daughter of the late Geter and Pearl Mae Cantrell Roberson, died Saturday, August 7, 2010.
Juanita was born December 6, 1935 in Spartanburg, SC. She was the matriarch of her family, lovingly served as a nursing assistant for over 25 years and was of the Baptist faith.
She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.
A private memorial service will be held. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic, P. O. Box 3466, Spartanburg, SC 29304-3466.
Pauline, SC – Earlie Ernest Crisp, Sr., son of the late William and Ollie Farley Crisp, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 5, 2010.
Mr. Crisp was born November 14, 1937 in Jackson County, NC. He was retired from the Spartanburg Water System. Mr. Crisp is of the Baptist Faith and asked the Lord to come into his heart on July 7, 2010.

Spartanburg, SC – Harold “Allen” Garrett, Jr., age 49, of Spartanburg, formally of Roebuck, peacefully entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after an extended illness.
Born October 13, 1960, in Spartanburg, Allen was the son of Harold Garrett and the late Shirley Garrett of Roebuck. He was a graduate of Dorman High School. Allen had many talents. He worked in the textile industry, was a machinist and a truck driver. Allen was a member of the American Pool Association and was an avid pool player. He also loved the beach and the outdoors, especially fishing.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 2:00 at Dunbar Funeral Chapel.

Roebuck – Marjorie Selman, age 88, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, July 30, 2010.
Born November 5, 1921 in Birmingham, AL, Mrs. Selman was a daughter of the late Thomas and Marjorie Shedd Brown and devoted wife of the late Reverend William Laurie Selman, Sr.
A servant of God, Mrs. Selman supported her husband faithfully in ministering to many congregations in their 46 years together. Her love of teaching God’s Word was an inspiration to many. Mrs. Selman’s sweet spirit was loved by anyone who knew her. She was a faithful servant until the time of her death. Mrs. Selman served as administrative assistant with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always pointing the lives of her family to her Savior.
Spartanburg – Elma L. Brown, wife of James “Jim” C. Brown, died July 25, 2010.
Mrs. Brown was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and the Joy Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Steve Brown and a daughter, Starr Jameson both of Spartanburg and a sister, Peggy Henderson of Charleston, SC. Mrs. Brown was blessed with five grandchildren; Jackie Wampler, Chris Quinn, Katie Crosby, Stephen Brown all of Spartanburg and Holly Smith of Brookings, OR and seven great-grandchildren.
Spartanburg, S.C. – Annetta Kay Ruppe Phillips age 56, beloved wife of William Harold Phillips, passed away July 15, 2010 at home.
Born November 8, 1953 in Gaffney, SC, she was a daughter of the late Hoyle Andrew and Charlotte Ann Reynolds Ruppe. Kay was a graduate of Cedar Spring School, class of 1975 and a member of Roebuck Church of God. She will be remembered as a first class wife, and loving mother and grandmother.
Moore – Anthony w. Bassano, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at his home.
Born in Olean, NY, Mr. Bassano was the son of Louis A. and Lena A. Bassano and the late Loretta Rayan. He honorably served in the U.S. Army in the Natick, MA, research lab. Mr. Bassano attended Bishop Walsh High School, West Chester State University, PA, and St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY. Formerly of MA, he moved to Spartanburg six years ago and worked at Vic Bailey Ford and Dave Edwards Toyota.

Roebuck, SC – Thomas Franklin “Frank” Benedict, 85, passed away July 18, 2010 in Greenville, SC.
Born in Spartanburg, Mr. Benedict was a son of the late Delouie and Sallie A. Wall Benedict and the husband of 58 years to the late Eleanor Ayers Benedict. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII where he served with the Seabees in Europe and Asia and was a member of VFW Post 9539. Mr. Benedict worked in the finance business in Spartanburg for 11 years prior to joining the S.C. Board of Bank Control, Consumer Affairs Division as an investigator and examiner from which he retired after 29 years.
