Martha Whealton Davenport (January 19, 1923 – May 29, 2010)

Spartanburg – On Saturday, May 29, 2010, after a number of years of declining health, Martha W. Davenport ended this earthly life and entered her heavenly life with her Lord and loved ones who have gone on before her.

Martha was born in Richmond, VA on January 19, 1923. Her family moved to Spartanburg when she was an infant, where she spent the remaining years of her life. She was the daughter of the late Rufus Manley and Mozelle Kearse Whealton. In 1941 she married the love of her life, the late Luna M. Davenport, Jr. They were married for 66 years. Mr. Davenport passed away in 2007.

Sherry W. Jennings (January 19, 1968 – May 27, 2010)

Spartanburg – Sherry W. Jennings, age 42, widow of Russell Wayne Jennings and mother of Nolan Jennings, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 27, 2010.

Born January 19, 1968 in Salisbury, NC, she was the daughter of Alfred F. and Jean Pepper Wales. Sherry was a graduate and a Blue Belle of Dorman High School. She attended the University of South Carolina and Spartanburg Technical College. Sherry was a lifelong Episcopalian and attended St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.

In addition to her parents, Sherry is survived by a brother, Eddie Wales and his wife, Tracy and their children, Ella, Avery and Annie of Columbia, SC and her mother-in-law, Becky Jennings of Cowpens.

Thomas O’Connor High, Sr. (August 18, 1919 – May 25, 2010)

Woodruff, SC – Reverend Dr. Thomas O’Connor High, Sr., husband of the late Katharine Younts High, died May 25, 2010 at Skylyn Place Health Center.

Gerald Dean “Buddy” Felmet (July 10, 1938 – May 22, 2010)

Spartanburg – Gerald Dean “Buddy” Felmet, age 71, won his battle with cancer and went home to be with his Lord, Saturday, May 22, 2010.

Born, Sunday, July 10, 1938 in Gaffney, SC, Mr. Felmet was a son of the late J.D. and Daisy Thomas Felmet and a grandson of the late William M. and Johnnie V. Vess Felmet of Converse and the late James J. and Mary N. Johnson Thomas of Gaffney. Mr. Felmet was the beloved husband of the late Shirley V. Johnson Felmet for 39 years. Mrs. Felmet preceded him in death August 28, 2001. Mr. Felmet was retired from Roebuck Builders after fifteen years of service. He was previously employed with Fiske-Carter Construction, Beaumont Mills and Spartan Automotive. Mr. Felmet was a member of Una First Free Will Baptist Church.

Sylvia Ann Davis Smith (January 4, 1936 – May 19, 2010)

Spartanburg – Sylvia Ann Davis Smith, age 74, wife of Vernon E. Smith, died May 19, 2010.

Born January 4, 1936 in Piedmont, SC, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Louie T. and Lucille Luker Davis. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, class of ’55. Mrs. Smith was very devoted to her husband, and will be remembered as a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of River Hills Baptist Church.

Agnes T. P. McCraw (August 16, 1925 – May 19, 2010)

Spartanburg – Agnes Todd Porter McCraw, age 84, wife of Miller “Danny” L. McCraw, died May 19, 2010.

Mrs. McCraw was born August 16, 1925 in the Cedar Springs Community to the late Ollie S. and Mae Caston Porter. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, class of ’44. Mrs. McCraw was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she was very active and a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Rosewood Garden Club and retired from Wofford College after 28 years of service.

Annemarie Tröcher Kessler (October 3, 1917 – May 17, 2010)

Spartanburg, S.C. – Annemarie Tröcher Kessler, age 92, wife of the late Bernard Kessler passed away Monday, May 17, 2010.
Born in Rein AmLech, Germany at the end of World War I on October 3, 1917, Mrs. Kessler was the daughter of the late Franz and Anna Tröcher. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. Mrs. Kessler was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
In 2005, Mrs. Kessler moved from Germany to the United States to join her only son Manfred, his wife Kitty and their five children. She has been a great example to stay strong through all walks of life in building up a solid totally united Catholic family with her trust and belief in Jesus our Savior. We thank her for her leadership to our family with her great devotion to “Love one another”.
Mrs. Kessler is survived by a son, Manfred Freissle and wife, Christina of South Africa; five grandchildren, Peter Freissle and wife, Ronel and their children, Monica, Kristen, Matthew, and Lisa of Spartanburg, Christa Gibson and husband, Greg, and their children, Michael, Sarah, Kathleen and Leo of Spartanburg, Ingrid Freissle of Spartanburg, Marianne Finch and husband, Robin and their children, Rachel and Nathan of South Africa, and Monika Lovallo and husband, Marc and their children, Christopher and Dominick of Simpsonville.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.
The relatives and friends of Mrs. Kessler are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 3:00 PM, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
In memory of Mrs. Kessler, memorials may be made to the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N. Dean St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.

John Wesley Foster (June 11, 1962 – May 14, 2010)

Roebuck, SC – John Wesley Foster, age 47, husband of Cathy Varner Foster, died Friday, May 14, 2010. He was the son of the late John and Clara Vaughn Foster

John worked for several years in the textile industry and loved his work with Walnut Grove Meats. He was a member of First Baptist Church Spartanburg.

In addition to his wife John is survived by two sons, Jason and Cory Varner, both of Spartanburg; four brothers, Tim Foster of Roebuck, SC, Tom Foster of Moore, SC, David Melton of NC and Mark Melton of McCormick, SC and his “Greek” Mom, Cris Foster of Roebuck, SC. He was predeceased by a brother Phillip Foster.

Chyenne Pheonix Tadesco ( November 7, 2000 – May 13, 2010)

Spartanburg, SC – Chyenne Pheonix Tadesco, age 9, died May 13, 2010.

Chyenne was a third grade student at Houston Elementary School. She loved planting flowers and attending church at Overcommer Temple of Christ.

Chyenne is survived by her mother and step-father, Crystal Tadesco and Joshua Ramsey; two sisters, Jasmine Tadesco and Alexis Cagle; maternal grandmother, Jennie Tadesco; and step-grandmother, Stephanie Spriggs.

Memorial services will be held, today, Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Tony Hardy.

In remembrance of Chyenne, memorials may be made to SAFE Homes, 236 Union St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.

Amanda Hammitt Rhyne (August 9, 1964 – May 12, 2010)

Spartanburg – Amanda “Mandy” Hammitt Rhyne, age 45, beloved wife of Bill Rhyne, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Regional Hospice Home.

Born in Spartanburg on August 9, 1964, she was the daughter of Peggy Horne Hammitt of Clinton and Lawrence Hammitt of Spartanburg. Mandy was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School, class of 1982 and Clemson University, class of 1985. She was previously employed with Spartanburg School District 6 for over 18 years. Mandy taught throughout the district and was a past principal at Jesse Bobo Elementary School. She lived for her Lord, husband and son, Will.
