Katherine Wilson Lanford (January 21, 1919 – January 28, 2010)

Roebuck – Katherine Wilson Lanford, beloved wife of the late, Dowins Brooks Lanford, died January 28, 2010 at Rosecrest Retirement Center.

Mrs. Lanford was born in Mill Springs, N.C. on January 21, 1919 to the late B.B. and Hessie Byars Wilson. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic and for her love of gardening. Mrs. Lanford was of the Baptist faith and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Lanford is survived by her daughter, Christy Lanford of Roebuck, and was blessed with a granddaughter Brooke Russell and her husband, Matthew of Cumming, GA.

Donald O. Caldwell (December 1, 1933 – January 25, 2010)

Spartanburg – Donald O. Caldwell, age 76, died January 25, 2010 at his home.

Mr. Caldwell was the son of the late Joseph Dennis and Jessie Sawyer Caldwell. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce Robertson Caldwell.
Mr. Caldwell was retired from Transcontinental Gas Pipeline after 30 years of service and was a member of Nazareth Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Caldwell is survived by a daughter, Lynn C. Burton and her husband, Jim of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Joey Caldwell of Inman; a granddaughter, Mary Catherine Burton of USC, Columbia, SC and three grandsons, Evan Burton of Jacksonville, FL and Dalton and Dylan Caldwell of Boiling Springs and his faithful dog, Toby.

Jason Christopher Williams (May 20, 1984 – January 20, 2010)

Roebuck, SC – Jason Christopher Williams, age 25, husband of Lindsey Kay Tolleson Williams, died at the Medical University of South Carolina, Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

Jason was born in Spartanburg on May 20, 1984 to Ronald Lee Williams of Buck Creek and Kathy Dill Williams of Chesnee. He was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School class of 2002. He enjoyed playing softball and was a 2nd degree black belt in Karate. Jason was a welding contractor in the Spartanburg/Greenville community for several years and was employed with Goodrich Turbines of Greenville. He was a Christian and a member of Stone Station Baptist Church.

Timothy Mark Lott (June 6, 1963 – January 19, 2010)

Spartanburg – Timothy Mark Lott, age 46, husband of Katherine Hall Lott, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

Born June 6, 1963, he was a son of the late Jessie Milton and Mildred Carlton Lott. Mr. Lott was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lott is survived by two sons, Mark Tillman Lott of Columbia, James Milton Lott of Spartanburg; four brothers, Jessie Randall Lott of Simpsonville, Kenneth Alan Lott of Boiling Springs, Joel Anthony Lott of Stockton, CA, Coy Daniel Lott of Spartanburg; and a sister, Kelly Diane Lott of Spartanburg.

Larry Phetasa (December 10, 1959 – January 19, 2010)

Spartanburg, SC – Larry Phetasa, age 50, beloved husband to Oraphine Asouphakhet, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

Born in Laos on December 10, 1959 he was employed at Kohler, Co. and a member of the Laotian Association of Spartanburg.

In addition to his wife Mr. Phetasa is survived by six children, Julie, Sirany, Randy, Franky, Nancy and Airic Phetasa, all of Spartanburg; one brother; three sisters; and five grandsons.

A visitation will be held Friday, January 22, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 2:00 at Dunbar Funeral Chapel.

William Monroe Rankin, Sr. (March 26 1939 – January 16, 2010)

Spartanburg – William Monroe Rankin, Sr., age 70, died Saturday, January 16, 2010.

Born March 26, 1939, he was a son of the late Clay William and Nellie Willard Rankin. Mr. Rankin was a retired manager for Exxon Corporation and faithfully served in the United States Marine Corp.

Mr. Rankin is survived by a son, William Monroe Rankin, Jr.; two daughters, Wanda and Terri; a brother, Joseph E. Rankin of Spartanburg; two sisters, Barbara Peel and her husband Robert of Spartanburg, Margaret Montjoy and her husband Melvyn of Roebuck; and a cousin Betty Sparks of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a brother, Billy Richard Rankin.

Mary Hunt (March 15, 1914 – January 16, 2010)

Spartanburg – Mary Hunt, age 95, Died Saturday morning, January 16, 2010.

Born March 15, 1914, in Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of Peter and Julia Hunt.

Mary was formerly employed by the Main Street Hotel and Jacks Economy Shop. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and long time member of the Price family. Mary leaves behind her friend & sister, Dorothy Cohen, and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 4:00 pm at the Dunbar Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Vivian Graham Miller (April 29, 1922 – January 17, 2010)

Spartanburg, SC – Mrs. Vivian Miller passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Eden Terrace Assisted Living.

Born April 29, 1922 in Union County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Mary Graham. Mrs. Miller most lovingly remembered and survived by her husband of 68 years, Martin P. Miller is also of Eden Terrace Assisted Living. She was a devoted member of Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Her allegiance to God and family helped to make her an unforgettable person.

Louie Jackson Phillips (February 12, 1959 – January 14, 2010)

Pacolet, SC – Louie Jackson Phillips, age 50, died suddenly at their home on January 14, 2010.

Louie was born February 12, 1959 to Eleanor Craig Fielder Phillips and the late Calvin Bynum “C.B.” Phillips. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, class of ’77. Louie faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy and was Scout Master for Troop II for over 10 years. He was a landscaper and caretaker in the Spartanburg community for over 28 years. Louie was a great lover of the outdoors and was lovingly referred to as the “Mountain Man”. He attended the Trinity United Methodist Church.

Stephen “Steve” Michael Smith (December 31, 1965 –

Spartanburg – Stephen “Steve” Michael Smith, age 44, beloved husband of Marsha Sewell Smith, died January 10, 2010.

Born, December 31, 1965, Steve was the son of Virginia “Ginger” Campbell Gregory and the late Franklin Bernard “Buddy” Smith. Steve loved people. He overcame many challenges in this life and was constantly smiling and laughing. Steve was an avid sportsman who loved to fish. He will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, son, grandson, nephew, step-dad and brother.
