Spartanburg – Douglas “Doug” Odell McCraw, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009.
Mr. McCraw was born July 24, 1930 in Spartanburg, SC to the late John Odell McCraw and Cecile McCraw Northcutt. He was employed by Spartan Mills and Mayfair Mills, was a member of Beaumont Baptist Church and served in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by a son, Steve McCraw; three daughters, Robbie Ward, Dorothy Northcutt, and Ann McCraw; a brother, Wayne McCraw; three sisters, Nell Lee, Betty Ravan, and Jenny Weaver; and several nephew and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister; Zelene Smith.

Spartanburg – Walter M. Cart, age 82, died Sunday morning, September 27, 2009.
Born April 7, 1927 in Spartanburg, SC., Walter was the son of the late John and Lucile Montgomery Cart. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Cart Morrison, and his grandson, Henry Robinson Cart.

Moore, SC – James “Ronnie” Ronald Pearson, age 63, husband of Karen McClure Pearson, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare.
Mr. Pearson was born on June 29, 1946 in Spartanburg, SC to the late James Oliver and Lucille Hughes Pearson. He was a retired truck driver with Brenntag Southeast and Standard Trucking Company.
In addition to his wife of thirty-nine years, he is survived by a son, Tim Snipes and his wife Sandy of Inman, SC, a daughter Paige Pearson of the home; a brother, Kenneth Pearson and his wife Betty of Greer, SC and two sisters, Evelyn Waddell of Greenpond, SC and Joann Burnett and her husband John of Fairforest, SC. He was blessed with three grandchildren, Stacey, Stephanie and Tyler Snipes.

Spartanburg – Barbara McMahan Taylor, age 76, went home to be with her Lord, September 20, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Spartanburg on June 18, 1933 to the late Joseph Harvey and Pearl Dotson McMahan. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and retired from Spartan Mills. Mrs. Taylor was a dedicated mother and grandmother and a member of Canaan Baptist Church.

Roebuck – Donald E. Zimmerman, age 71, husband of Frankie Layton Zimmerman, died Saturday, September 19, 2009 after an extended illness.
Mr. Zimmerman was born in Spartanburg, SC on April 1, 1938 to the late Earl and Sybil McAlister Zimmerman. He was retired after 28 years of service as a driver with UPS. Mr. Zimmerman was a member of Beaver Hill Baptist Church, a member and Past Master of the Roebuck Masonic Lodge 357.
In addition to his wife of forty-nine years, Mr. Zimmerman is survived by a son, Donald F. Zimmerman and his wife Mindy of Roebuck. He was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Z. Ioannidis.

Spartanburg – Roy Arlen Lowe, age 75, husband of Sarah Katherine (Kitty) Guy Lowe, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 after an extended illness.
Mr. Lowe was born in Fingerville, SC on December 5, 1933 to the late George and Lucille Clayton Lowe. He honorably served our country in the United States Army as a Paratrooper. He was retired after 30 years of service with Spartanburg City Fire Department where he served as Captain of Union Street Station. Mr. Lowe was a member of Temple Methodist Church.

Spartanburg – Henry Julian Magalas, age 56, husband of Laurie Spiretelli Magalas, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009.
Mr. Magalas was born in Norwalk, Conn. on March 29, 1953 to the late Henry and Katherine Dashion Magalas. He served our country in the United States Army. Mr. Magalas was Facilities Director for the Pine Street YMCA and was retired from the Norwalk Police Department after 27 years of service.
In addition to his wife of seventeen years, Mr. Magalas is survived by two daughters, Katherine Magalas of Spartanburg and Ashley Magalas of Huntington, Conn.; and a sister, Marie Magalas of Port Jefferson, NY.

Spartanburg – Dena Rollins Band, age 92, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on September 15, 2009, at Regional Hospice Home on Jeff Davis Drive in Spartanburg.
Born September 9, 1917 in Johnsonville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Jefferson and Vara Moorer Rollins and the wife of the late William Charles Band. Mrs. Band was retired from Southern Bell as a Directory Assistant for more than twenty-five years. She was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Spartanburg – Horace Mitchell Howard, age 85, passed away September 12, 2009, at Mary Black Hospital.
Mr. Howard was born December 13, 1923 to the late John Henry and Lucille Russell Howard. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of Loree United Methodist Church.
Mr. Howard is survived by his wife, Dorothy Johnson Howard; a daughter, Lori Whitlock of Inman, SC; a son, Mitchell Howard and his wife Judy of Inman, SC and a daughter-in-law, Belva Howard of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a son, Allan Howard. Mr. Howard was blessed with nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Spartanburg – Katie Patrick Pickering, age 30, the mother of Hannah Nicole Pickering, died unexpectedly due to complications from diabetes, Friday, September 11, 2009.
Born in Williamsburg, VA on May 16, 1979, she was the daughter of Gil and Sandy Sprague Patrick and the wife of the late Stephen Randolph Pickering. Katie was a graduate of Greenbrier East High School, class of 1998. She was previously employed with BTT Trucking in Savannah, GA where she was an Inventory Control Supervisor. Prior to her illness, Katie was a competitive swimmer and tennis player. Katie’s greatest joy in life was being a stay-at-home mom and spending time with her beloved daughter, Hannah. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Spartanburg.
