Rachel Marie Evans (March 12, 1990 – August 25, 2009)

Spartanburg, SC – Rachel Marie Evans, died Tuesday, August 25th, 2009. She was born in Spartanburg, SC. She is pre-deceased by her mother, Wende Boone Evans Rollins. She is survived by her parents, Douglas Abernethy and Teena Patrick Evans; brother, Charles Elwin Rollins; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boone and Mr. and Mrs. John Evans; step-siblings Caitlin Johnston Stokes and Chandler Johnston; and her cousins, Fayssoux, Mary Mac and Ruth Evans; Kate, Will, and Sadie Evans and Emma Hardin; Bentley Carter and Mitchelle Hardee; and Alexander Boone Pinkowish.

Lou Ann Moody (December 5, 1955 – August 19, 2009)

Roebuck, SC – Lou Ann Moody, age 53, passed away at her home, Wednesday, August 19, 2009.

Lou Ann was born in Spartanburg, SC, on December 5, 1955 to Betty Jean Garrett Moody and the late James Moody. She was a member of Mitchell Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Church. Lou Ann is survived by two brothers, James Moody (Taska) of Duncan, SC, Dennis Moody (Dawn) of Roebuck, SC; and one sister, Teresa Caton (Jeff) of Moore, SC.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 23, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by Reverend Robert Bevill.

Francis Coyle Harris (September 22, 1920 – August 18, 2009)

Spartanburg – Francis Coyle Harris, age 88, widower of Mary Catherine Harris, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009.

Coyle was born in Cherokee county to the late Hoyle and Ida Poole Harris. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and was retired from Beaumont Mills after 46 years of service. Coyle was a past Master of Drayton Mill Village Lodge 360, past District Deputy Grand Master, chaplain for 40 years and a Shriner. He was a life long member of Beaumont Baptist Church, former deacon, choir member and a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.

Winifred Heefner Anderson (June 3, 1924 – August 16, 2009)

SPARTANBURG, SC– Winifred Hefner Anderson, 85, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Valley Falls Terrace after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born June 3, 1924 in Burnham, PA, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Helen Gottschalk Hefner and the wife of the late Gilbert L. Anderson. Mrs. Anderson was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by a daughter, Nina A. Cannon and husband Jack of Greenville, SC; two sons, Brian Anderson and Eric Anderson, both of Spartanburg; two sisters, Mary Ann McKenzie of McLean, VA, and Marjorie Patterson of Yeagertown, PA; and a grandson, Daniel Anderson. She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Pitzer.

Robert “Bob” Fore III (August 25, 1941 – August 13, 2009)

Spartanburg – Robert Edward Fore, III; age 67, died Thursday, August 13, 2009 after an extended illness.

Bob was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 25, 1941 to the late Robert Edward Fore Jr. and Louise Borne Fore. He was a graduate of Newberry College, class of 1964, where he played football and was a member of the Indian Club. Bob was a member of the Men’s Methodist Club and the Country Club of Spartanburg. Bob was the founder of Spartan Fire and Emergency Apparatus and the oldest Pierce Fire Apparatus dealer nationwide. He enjoyed coaching for many years for Hillbrook Little League Football and was instrumental in developing the St. Paul’s UMC Basketball league. Bob was also a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for over 40 years.

William “Bill” Otto Chesney (July 14, 1939 – August 11, 2009)

Spartanburg – William “Bill” Otto Chesney, age 70, died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born in Spartanburg on July 14, 1939, he was a son of the late Louis and Gladys Pruitt Chesney. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Chesney is survived by his devoted companion, Isabel Johnson; a daughter, Kim Stager Rice of Cowpens, SC; two sons, Jimmy Whiteside of Columbia, SC, Terry Whiteside and his wife Kim of Woodruff, SC; two sisters, Ruth Robinson of Spartanburg, Peggy Woodfin and husband, Jeff of Inman, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Debra Burnett; a son, Jerry Whiteside; a brother, Ray Chesney; and two grandchildren, Thomas Whiteside and Tim Bradley.

Vickie Byars Lawson (August 14, 1949 – August 7, 2009)

Spartanburg, S.C. – Vickie Byars Lawson, 59, wife of Bruce Lawson, died August 7, 2009 at her home.

Born August 14, 1949, she was the daughter of Vivian Smith Byars and the late Howard Byars. Mrs. Lawson was a 1967 graduate of Pacolet High School and retired from New York Life Insurance. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and River Hills Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and friend.

Janice Gregory “Mintie” Easler (September 17, 1949 – August 3, 2009)

Spartanburg, S.C. – Janice Gregory “Mintie” Easler, 59, wife of George Easler, died August 3, 2009 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Born September 17, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Willard Parris and the late Martha Gregory. Mrs. Easler was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

In addition to her husband of 44 years, Mrs. Easler is survived by three daughters, Julie Davis (Matt) of Gastonia, NC, Kellie Renfro (Joe) and Kristi Easler of Spartanburg; a son, Greg Easler (Jackie) of Charlotte, NC; her step-father, James Gregory; two sisters, Gail Catasus of Spartanburg and Sharon McCraw of Cowpens; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
