Clarence Albert Brice (February 18, 1943 – July 29, 2009)

Moore, SC – Clarence Albert Brice, age 66, passed away July 29, 2009 at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.

Mr. Brice was born, February 18, 1943, in Spartanburg to the late Harvey Albert Brice and Ella Mae Tweed Brice. He was a past Master of Poplar Springs Masonic Lodge #415, a U. S. Army Veteran and was retired after 30 years of service with Kusters Corporation. Mr. Brice’s hobby was antique cars.

Teddy Charles Lindsay (April 28, 1955 – July 23, 2009)

Spartanburg – Teddy Charles Lindsay, age 54, died Thursday, July 23, 2009.

Born in Fletcher, NC, Teddy is the son of Clara Jackson and Wilberdean Reese of Spartanburg, SC. Teddy honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, Teddy is survived by a cousin, Billy Willingham of Campobello; a nephew, Zachary Glover of Phoenix, AZ; a niece, Janessa Shelton of Rosman, NC; and three great-nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Jackie Glover.

Violet “Dixie” Coates Welch (November 26, 1938 – July 22, 2009)

Spartanburg-Violet “Dixie” Coates Welch, age 70, went home to be with the Lord, July 22, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Mrs. Welch is the daughter of the late Luther Marion and Hannah Ruth Loving Coates. She is survived by two daughters, Kim Lunsford (Rick) of Chesnee and Leslie Greathouse of Boiling Springs; two brothers, Rev. Larry Coates (Carolyn) of Coosada, AL and Butch Coates (Dana) of Boones Mill, VA; two sisters, Dale Dill of Spartanburg and Nadine Brown of Tampa, FL and three grandchildren, Justin Lunsford, Olivia Lunsford and Shane Greathouse. Mrs. Welch was predeceased by a brother, Daryl Coates. She was a member of Croft Baptist Church.

William E. “Skip” Reid, Jr. (September 6, 1932 – July 21, 2009)

Spartanburg – William Edward “Skip” Reid, Jr., husband of Kay Smith Reid, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, July 21, 2009 at his residence.

Born in Kingsport, TN on September 6, 1932, Mr. Reid was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Reid, Sr. of Tubac, AZ. He was a graduate of Scarsdale High School, Avon Old Farms Prep School, and Washington and Lee University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was retired from Diversco, Inc. and was a member of First Baptist Church, Spartanburg. Mr. Reid was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren taking them to Krispy Kreme and baking them homemade biscuits.

James ‘Jim’ C. Guthrie (March 27, 1928 – July 21, 2009)

Spartanburg – James “Jim” C. Guthrie, age 81, died peacefully at his summer home on Tuesday, July 21, 2009.

Mr. Guthrie was the son of the late Carl and Addie Phillips Guthrie. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Guthrie retired after 20 years of service from the Spartanburg City Police Department. He was a Mason with St. Johns Lodge #333 where he received a 50 year pen and a Shriner with Scottish and York Rites.

Bryson Scott Petty (July 19, 2009 – July 19, 2009)

Spartanburg – Bryson Scott Petty, infant son of Bradley Scott and Tennille Johnson Petty, passed away July 19, 2009.

Bryson is survived by his maternal grandparents, Michael Johnson of Lockhart and Tammy Johnson of Spartanburg and his paternal grandparents, Barry and Cindy Petty of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Kay Jones Petty.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 11:00 am at Heritage Memorial Gardens conducted by the Reverend Kevin Walker.

William “Dub” Warlick (August 16, 1918 – July 11, 2009)

Spartanburg – W.F. Warlick died Saturday, July 11, 2009.

Mr. Warlick was born in Spartanburg on August 16, 1918. He was the son of the late Willie C. and Cora Porter Warlick. Mr. Warlick was a graduate of Spartanburg High School. He graduated from Wofford College in 1950. Mr. Warlick faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was retired from Civil Service. Mr. Warlick was a lifetime member of El Bethel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Warlick is survived by his loyal friend, Johnny Rogers. He was predeceased by a sister. Mr. Warlick is the last surviving member of his family.

Tryntje Saarloos van Herwynen (November 24, 1920 – June 27,2009)

Spartanburg – Tryntje Saarloos van Herwynen, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009.

Born in Rotterdam, Holland on November 24, 1920, Mrs. van Herwynen was a daughter of the late Peter and Cornelia Rinkel Saarloos. She was the beloved wife of the late Wynand van Herwynen. Mrs. van Herwynen was a member of Care Baptist Church.

Mrs. van Herwynen is survived by two daughters-in-law, Janet van Herwynen of Moore, SC and Patricia van Herwynen of Long Island, NY; two sisters residing in Holland; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two sons, Albert van Herwynen, Sr. and Peter van Herwynen, Sr.; three sisters and two brothers all of Holland.
