Bounsom Phouachith (April 4, 1964 – May 27, 2009)

Spartanburg, SC- Bounsom “Boom-Boom” Phouachith, age 45, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at his home.

Born in Vientiane, Laos on April 4, 1964, he was the son of Lay Phouachith and the late Kene Phouachith.

Bounsom is survived by one son Bounsom Phouachith, Jr., two daughters Ashley Hernandez and Amanda Phouachith, all of Spartanburg, three brothers Kong, Vong and Bounlom and one sister Sene Lay Phoungmany. He was pre-deceased by a brother Prasith Pooagith and a sister Vene Phouachith.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at Dunbar Chapel.

Dennis Allen Caughman (February 15, 1970 – May 26, 2009)

MOORE, SC – Dennis Allen Caughman, age 39, of 425 McFall Court, Moore, passed away, after a long battle with cancer, on May 26, 2009, in the Hospice house of Laurens County in Clinton, SC.

He was born on February 15, 1970 in Clinton, SC. He is the son of Tracy Caughman and his wife Mary Ann Caughman of Boone, NC, and mother, Emily Caughman of Laurens, SC. He worked at WSPA News channel 7 as a master control operator for 11 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Harry Carl Hoppes, Jr. (May 24, 1933 – May 20, 2009)

Spartanburg – Harry Carl Hoppes, Jr., husband of the late Naomi Banks Hoppes, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009.

Harry was born in Spartanburg on May 24, 1933, to the late Carl and Elizabeth Hawkins Hoppes. He graduated from Cecil’s Business College and retired from the Spartanburg Herald Journal/NY Times. Harry was a life member of Calhoun Masonic Lodge, a member of the Croft Ruritan and St. Luke United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the DE 135 USS Weiss and the LST 887 USS Lexington.

Charles L. Richards (January 30, 1948 – May 22, 2009)

Roebuck – Charles L. Richards, husband of Nancy Lewis Richards, died Friday, May 22, 2009.

Mr. Richards was born in Spartanburg on January 30, 1948 to the late Robert M. and Elmer Steadings Richards. He worked 25 years for Trail Cabinet Works as a cabinet maker. He was loved and cherished by all.

He is survived by three daughters, April Richards of Greenwood, Tracie Echols and her husband Jeff of Pauline, and Lynn Taylor of Roebuck, two brothers, John C. Richard and his wife Frances of Spartanburg, and Harold Richards and his wife Nancy of Jonesville, two sisters, Jo Lee of Roebuck and Renee Blalock and her husband Thomas of Roebuck, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by two sons, Charlie Brown Richards and Troy Martin Richards and one brother Robert M. Richards, Jr.

Henry James Wall (March 11, 1920 – May 20, 2009)

Chesnee, SC – Henry James Wall, husband of the late Mildred Davis Wall, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009.

Mr. Wall was born in Spartanburg on March 11, 1920 to the late B. F. and Cora Horton Wall. He was the president of the Goodyear Hunting and Fishing Club in Akron, OH and retired from Goodyear after 35 years. Mr. Wall served our country in the Untied States Army and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Royer and her husband, Elden of Cumming, GA and Pamela Blankenship and her husband Roger, of Spartanburg. Mr. Wall was blessed with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Geraldine Corn Owens (November 15, 1937 – May 19, 2009)

Spartanburg – Geraldine Corn Owens, wife of Lee Wade Owens, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, May 19, 2009.

Born in Inman, SC, on November 15, 1937, Mrs. Owens was the daughter of the late Andy and Thelma Mary Horton Corn. She was a member of the original Rock Hill Baptist Church, Inman, SC.

In addition to her loving husband of 14 years, Mrs. Owens is survived by a daughter, Debbie Owens Ammons of Pauline: two sons, Anthony Wade Owens and wife Janet of Roebuck, and Randall Lee Owens of Pauline; three brothers, Wayne corn and wife Jean of Inman, Lonnie Corn and wife Ruth Ann of Inman, and Glenn Corn and wife Barbara of Campobello; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a niece, Shannon Corn.

Maudie Lee West Fortenberry (December 15, 1923 – May 19, 2009)

Spartanburg – Maudie Lee West Fortenberry, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

Born in Spartanburg on December 15, 1923, Mrs. Fortenberry was the daughter of the late Terrell and Bertie Mae Stevens West. She was a member of Moore Church of Christ.

Mrs. Fortenberry is survived by two granddaughters, Sally Satterfield Smith and husband, Tim and Carol Satterfield Steward and husband Charles all of Spartanburg; a grandson, Charles Edward Satterfield, Jr. and wife, Judy of Enoree; and seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Fortenberry; her daughter, Shelby Jean Fortenberry; two brothers; and four sisters

Betty Myers Hill Stephens (February 15, 1930 – May 8, 2009)

Spartanburg – Betty Stephens, age 79, died on Friday, May 8, 2009, at Windsor House West.

Born in Goodlettsville, TN, on February 15, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Charles Dallas and Elizabeth Milam Myers Hill. Betty was retired from the Nashville Veterans Affairs Regional Office. She loved music, decorating, reading, crafts, bird watching and gardening. Betty was a member of Connell Memorial United Methodist Church. Betty was a dear, sweet lady. She was admired by her family, made friends easily and was known for kindness to others.

John Wayne Pettit (January 7, 1940 – May 10, 2009)

Roebuck – John Wayne Pettit, husband of Mary Wilkes Pettit, died Sunday, May 10, 2009.

Wayne was born in the Walnut Grove community on January 7, 1940 to the late John Lewis and Goldie Strange Pettit. He retired as the machine shop supervisor for Betras Plastics and was corporate owner of Spartanburg Stagehand Services. Wayne was a member of the Roebuck Masonic Lodge 357 and the local Teamsters Union. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church where he also served as a Deacon.

Jeremiah E. “Jeremy” Howell (April 25, 1979 – May 7, 2009)

Roebuck – Jeremiah E. Howell, died Thursday, May 7, 2009.

Jeremy was born in Spartanburg on April 25, 1979 to Frank E. and Ella McCall Howell. He worked as an electrician’s helper and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Jeremy is survived by a sister, Jessica Jean Howard of Chesnee; a niece, Destiny Marie Howard of Chesnee; and his grandfather, Frank Howell, Sr. of Boiling Springs.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 4:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Fred Quidley.
