Spartanburg – Mrs. E.D. ‘Betty’ Cochran, age 88, beloved wife of the late Dr. Edwin Dean Cochran departed, Friday, January 30 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Cochran was the daughter of the late Dandridge Twitty and Blanche Fontaine Whiddon Bibb. She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. and was active in community affairs. Mrs. Cochran was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg.
Mrs. Cochran is survived by a son Ed ‘Butch’ Cochran, Jr. and his wife, Rita of Taylors; and a daughter, Nancy C. Stafford and her husband, Thomas, of St. Marys, GA; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Judy Cochran Coble. She was predeceased by a son, James Daniel Cochran.

SPARTANBURG – Mrs. Marjorie F. Franklin of 100 Summit Hills Drive died on January 27, 2009 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
She was born December 15, 1921 in Wheeling, W. Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Dr. Myer Franklin of Wheeling. Survivors include three daughters; Marcia Mendelson and her husband Gordon of Scottsdale, Arizona, Cathy Boss and her husband Rick of Spartanburg, Gaye Franklin and her husband Martin of Boulder Colorado, and a son; Scott Franklin and his wife Amy of Overland Park, Kansas. In addition, Marjorie leaves eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Gaffney, SC – Jack Lee Huey, age 67, beloved husband of Victoria Burgess Huey, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009.
Born in Spartanburg on March 31, 1941, he was a son of the late Robert Arlee Huey and Thelma Ball Huey. Mr. Huey was employed with the South Carolina Highway patrol for eight years and was a retired Sergeant with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force. Mr. Huey attended Elm Street Church of God in Gaffney.

Spartanburg – Barbara Gault Morris, age 80, beloved wife of Frank Morris, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Mrs. Morris was the daughter of the late Conway Jackson and Novelle Waddell Gault. She attended Spartanburg High School and for several years worked at the E. P. Todd Elementary School. Mrs. Morris was a faithful member of Croft Baptist Church for 60 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son Neal Morris and his wife, Mitzi of Spartanburg; a sister, Jackie Gault Lancaster of St. Petersburg, FL and two grandchildren Wilson and Krista Burwell. Mrs. Morris was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly M. Burwell and a sister, Maxine Yvonne Gault Reeves.

Campobello, SC – Vernon Boyd Babb, Jr., age 79, husband of the late Frances Stevens Babb, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009.
Born in Woodruff on March 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Vernon Boyd Babb, Sr. and Mamie Sue Skinner Babb and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Babb was a masonry contractor and in his later years, he was employed by Pettit Construction Company. He served in the National Guard, was a Mason with Bethel Lodge 112 and a Shriner. Mr. Babb was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

Moore, S.C. – Ethel Mary Witherow Park, 86, wife of the late Edgar Park, died on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at her home on 342 W. Autumn Ridge.
Born on November 18, 1922, in Donegal, Ireland, Mrs. Park was the daughter of the late William James and Rebecca Sterrit Witherow. She was employed by the Western Union Company in London, England and B. Altman and Company in New Jersey. Mrs. Park was a homemaker and a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church.

Spartanburg, S.C. – Fred Carol Coker, passed away January 18, 2009.
Born on June 3, 1936, Fred was the son of the late Frank H. and Elsie Mae Damerun Coker. Fred proudly served in the United States Army. Fred was a framing contractor for local builders for over 30 years and was of the Baptist Faith.
Fred is survived by his loving companion, Sissie Howdyshell; a daughter, Freida Edgens of Spartanburg; a brother, Theron O. Coker of Boiling Springs, S.C.; three sisters, Thelma McElrath, Emily Gowan, and Cheryl Chumley all of Spartanburg; two grandchildren, Chris Howard and his wife, Tanya; and Austin McKillop and a great-grandson, Colton Howard.

Moore, S.C. -C Vera D. Bloom, 96, wife of the late Gurney G. Bloom, died on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at Regional Hospice Home. She was a member of Jesus Christ Our Risen Savior Catholic Church.
Born on December 2, 1912, in Newark, New Jersey, Mrs. Bloom was the daughter of the late Louis D’Aloisio and Lucy Tretola D’Aloisio.
